Kaduna is set to become the meeting point of some of Nigeria’s most respected democracy advocates, civil rights activists, lawyers, academics and political leaders tomorrow, Saturday as the highly anticipated book, “Gani Fawehinmi and Uba Sani: A Tale of Mentor and Mentee,” will be formally unveiled.

The book, written by Basirat Fawehinmi-Biobaku, Esq., daughter of the late human rights icon, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN), sheds light on the little-known relationship between the fearless legal activist and one of his most prominent protégés, the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani.

Already, guests from different parts of the country have begun arriving in Kaduna ahead of what organisers describe as more than a conventional book launch. The event is expected to bring together veterans of Nigeria’s pro-democracy movement, former political prisoners, civil society leaders, public intellectuals, traditional rulers, youth groups and members of the legal community.

For many participants, the gathering offers an opportunity to revisit a defining chapter in Nigeria’s democratic struggle and celebrate a mentorship that helped shape one of the country’s most prominent political figures.

Long before his emergence as Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani was actively involved in the campaign against military dictatorship and was among the young activists mentored by the late Gani Fawehinmi, whose fearless opposition to injustice made him a symbol of resistance and democratic activism.

Organisers say the event will spotlight the values that defined the relationship between mentor and mentee—courage, sacrifice, integrity and commitment to the public good.

Speaking on the significance of the occasion, members of the organising committee said the launch would serve as a reunion of democracy advocates and a platform for inter-generational conversations on leadership, nation-building and the preservation of democratic ideals.

Governor Uba Sani has repeatedly acknowledged the profound influence of the late legal icon on his life and political journey.

“My mentor, the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, remains one of the towering figures of Nigeria’s democratic evolution. He inspired countless Nigerians to challenge injustice, defend constitutional freedoms and stand firmly on the side of truth,” the governor said in a tribute to the late activist.

With excitement building across Kaduna, expectations are high that tomorrow’s event will attract some of the biggest names associated with Nigeria’s democratic movement and provide fresh insights into a relationship that helped shape history.
