Kaduna Police recover arms, stolen vehicles, $33,200 counterfeit cash

The Kaduna State Police Command has made significant progress in its ongoing clearance operations, recovering firearms, stolen vehicles, and suspected counterfeit US dollars across the state.

This was announced in a press statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, on Thursday.

According to the statement, “on August 31, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m., the DPO Kidandan received information that armed bandits were disturbing farmers in the Kidandan area of Giwa Local Government.

“The DPO promptly mobilized PMF personnel attached to APV Kaya along with members of the Kaduna Vigilance Service, KADVS, to the scene. Upon sighting the security team, the bandits opened fire.

“The police responded with superior firepower, causing the bandits to flee into the bush.

“The suspects left behind one pump-action rifle with two cartridges and one motorcycle.”

In another operation, the Police stated that based on credible information about suspected gunrunners around the Maraban Jos axis, police operatives set up roadblocks along key access routes.

“The heavy security presence forced the suspects to abandon their vehicles and flee.

“Nine illegal firearms were recovered.Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects,” the statement added.

It revealed that the Command also achieved a breakthrough in vehicle theft cases.

“On September 2, 2026, at about 6:30 a.m., following credible intelligence, operatives moved to Panteka, Kurmin Mashi, Kaduna, where they detained three suspects: Hashiru Ibrahim, Mohammed Ibrahim, and Umar Hassan.

“The suspects were caught attempting to sell a black GMK Jeep valued at about N70 million for N4 million.

“The vehicle was already being prepared for dismantling and sale as parts.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that Hashiru Ibrahim stole the vehicle from Abeokuta, Ogun State, where he was employed as a driver for a Chinese company.

“The vehicle has been seized, and investigations continue to identify other members of the syndicate.

“In a separate case, on August 31, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., operatives from the Surveillance Unit, State CID, intercepted a white Toyota Hilux reported stolen from Agadez, Niger Republic. Verification confirmed that the chassis number matched that of a stolen vehicle.

“Abubakar Abdullahi was arrested in possession of the vehicle, which is now in police custody.

“The Command also disrupted the circulation of counterfeit currency. On August 31, 2026, at about 1:00 p.m., police acted on intelligence to arrest Kabir Yusuf of No. 17 India Road, Barnawa, Kaduna.

“ A search led to the recovery of 332 suspected counterfeit US $100 notes and 6 suspected counterfeit N1,000 notes,” the statement noted.

The Police stated that during the initial investigation, the suspect admitted to obtaining the counterfeit currency from one Sahibu Ruhan of Kano State, who remains at large.

It added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the accomplice and dismantle the wider network behind the counterfeiting.

DSP Hassan stated that the Commissioner of Police appreciates the public for their timely information and cooperation, emphasizing that these successes were largely made possible through actionable intelligence provided by good Samaritans.

He urged the public to continue reporting suspicious activities promptly to the police and other security agencies to keep Kaduna State safe for everyone and ensure farmers can access their farmlands without fear.
