The Sokoto State Police Command is on high alert to neutralize an imminent attack on Kebbe town following a N40 million levy imposed on the community by bandits.
The armed group threatened to unleash mayhem on the local government headquarters and surrounding villages on Friday if the demand is not met.
The planned assault coincides with the scheduled state commissioning of the newly upgraded Kebbe Juma’at Mosque.
Local sources report that the bandits have invited neighboring criminal groups to join the attack, prompting stakeholders to advise the state government to postpone the event.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ahmed Rufai confirmed that security forces are aware of the threat and actively deployed to prevent any breach.
He assured residents that the command remains on red alert to protect lives and property across the state.
The threat follows a violent raid in Kebbe two weeks ago that resulted in deaths, property destruction, and mass abductions, triggering a severe displacement of residents into neighbouring Kebbi State.
