Kaduna launches new boards to boost agriculture, human capital

The Kaduna State Government has inaugurated the governing boards of four key agencies to support Governor Senator Uba Sani’s transformative initiatives in agriculture, media, education, and human capital development.

The inauguration was conducted on behalf of the Governor by the Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, Dr. Mu’azu Abdulkadir Meyere.

The agencies include the Kaduna State Agricultural Development Authority, Kaduna State Media Corporation, Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority, and the Kaduna State Scholarship and Bursary Board.

Dr. Meyere congratulated the appointees and described their selection as a sign of the Governor’s and the State Executive Council’s confidence.

“Your appointment is a call to service, and I urge you to answer this call with dedication and commitment.

“The Governor has been deliberate in carefully selecting persons of proven integrity, competence, and experience drawn from across our dear state,” he stated.

He stated that the boards’ mandates align with the administration’s development goals.

“The Agricultural Development Authority plays a key role in coordinating growth in a sector that supports the livelihoods of a large portion of our population and has significant investment potential.

“The Media Corporation is responsible for informing, educating, and enlightening our citizens about the remarkable achievements of our government and for promoting the story of Kaduna State.

“ The Quality Assurance Authority and Scholarship and Bursary Board clearly reflect the priority the Governor places on human capital development.

“For in the heart of our Governor, no investment is greater than the education of our children,” the SSG stated.

Dr. Meyere assigned six key responsibilities to the new board members. He urged them to familiarize themselves with the laws governing their agencies and to operate strictly within those boundaries.

He also clarified the differences between the roles of boards and management.

“The boards provide policy direction and oversight. The day-to-day administration of these agencies remains the responsibility of management.

“A clear understanding of this difference is the best way to guarantee a harmonious and productive tenure,” he said.

He also directed the boards to follow statutory meeting schedules, uphold due process, adhere to the Kaduna State Procurement Act and financial regulations, avoid conflicts of interest, keep confidentiality, and set clear, measurable targets in partnership with chief executives.

During the ceremony, the Commissioner for Information, represented by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mallam Ibraheem Musa, called the event “epoch-making.”

He expressed confidence that Kaduna would not face the conflicts between board chairpersons and chief executives that have occurred in some states.

“You are experienced citizens, people of integrity who have held national responsible positions.

“That is why you were selected. I am confident this overlap of roles will not happen in Kaduna State,” he said.

The Chairman of the Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority Governing Board, Tanko Kokwain Baji, committed to reforms in the education sector.

“This isn’t merely a meeting for inauguration. It is the beginning of a renewed commitment towards strengthening quality, accountability, standards, and access across all our schools,” Baji said.

He identified infrastructure deficits, teacher quality, school safety, and access disparities as major challenges.

He explained the board’s vision to set transparent, data-driven standards for monitoring both public and private schools, and to promote accountability for ongoing improvement.

“Kaduna is a center of education, and our governor has set many of his priorities for education.

“These children that are out of school, they will not be out of school anymore,” he added.
