Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has been named “Most Outstanding Governor in Nigeria – South-South” at the Daily Times Centenary Heroes Awards held in Abuja.
The award was presented on Thursday at the ThisDay Dome as part of activities marking the centenary anniversary of the Daily Times newspaper.
The ceremony attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, senior government officials, business executives and other prominent Nigerians.
Governor Eno was represented at the event by the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ekerete Udoh.
Presenting the award, the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, commended Eno’s leadership and development efforts in Akwa Ibom State.
Achebe, who recalled his previous visits to the state, said he was impressed by the development he had witnessed and the governor’s emphasis on improving residents’ welfare.
“I have been to Akwa Ibom State on several occasions, and I am very impressed with the work he is doing, particularly his commitment to the welfare of the people. We encourage him to keep the flag flying,” Achebe said.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, also praised Eno’s performance, describing him as a leader who was making progress in the state.
“He is a good man. He is doing well. Please extend my greetings to him,” Ogunwusi said.
The award recognises Eno’s administration for its performance in areas including infrastructure development, human capital development, economic empowerment and people-focused governance.
Former President of the African Development Bank, Prof. Akinwumi Adesina, delivered the keynote address at the ceremony, commending the Daily Times for reaching its 100-year milestone and its contributions to Nigeria’s development.
President Bola Tinubu, who chaired the occasion, was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
Other dignitaries at the event included Niger State Governor Umaru Bago, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule and Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal.
Also present were APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo; Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu; former ministers, traditional rulers and business leaders.
Several individuals and institutions were also recognised for their contributions to national development.
The Daily Times Centenary Heroes Awards formed part of activities commemorating the newspaper’s 100th anniversary and celebrated individuals and institutions recognised for contributions to public service, business, community development and Nigeria’s growth.
