LG Electronics has commissioned a solar-powered borehole in Nariya Rigasa, Kaduna State, as part of its community water initiative aimed at improving access to clean and sustainable water.
The intervention, unveiled in Kaduna, is the company’s 19th solar-powered borehole donated across different states in Nigeria and is designed to provide residents with a more reliable water source while reducing dependence on grid electricity.
The Head of Corporate Marketing, LG Electronics Nigeria, Paul Mba, said the initiative was part of the company’s effort to extend its innovation and sustainability drive beyond household technology.
“For us, innovation has its greatest value when people can feel its impact in their everyday lives,” Mba said.
He said the company’s responsibility went beyond providing technology to consumers to addressing needs within communities where it operates.
“Access to clean water is fundamental, and by combining that need with a sustainable energy solution, we are demonstrating what it means for technology and social responsibility to work together,” he added.
The Head of Nariya Rigasa Village, Alhaji Zakariyya Ya’u, welcomed the project, saying improved access to water would benefit households and children in the community.
“Water touches every part of community life. When access becomes easier and more reliable, the benefit reaches our homes, our children and our daily activities,” he said.
Similarly, the Sarki of Yakin Nariya, Alhaji Jamiu Yakubu, said the project demonstrated the importance of collaboration between communities and responsible businesses.
“Development becomes more meaningful when communities, their leaders and responsible organisations work together,” Yakubu said.
The Women Leader of Nariya Rigasa, Hajia Fatimat Sanni, said the project would particularly benefit women, who often bear significant household responsibilities associated with water.
“For women, access to water is not an abstract issue. It affects cooking, washing, caring for children and managing our homes every day,” she said.
Sanni said easier access to water would reduce difficulties faced by women and families in their daily activities.
The Public Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility Manager of LG Electronics Nigeria, Moses Osime, said the company’s community interventions were focused on addressing practical needs.
“CSR becomes meaningful when it responds to a genuine need and continues creating value after the commissioning ceremony is over,” Osime said.
He said the company wanted its interventions to remain relevant and sustainable within beneficiary communities.
LG said the solar-powered system was part of its broader sustainability approach, providing an alternative source of power for the water facility.
The company said its Kaduna intervention was an extension of its community water programme, which has covered different parts of the country.
It added that the initiative was intended to combine technology, sustainability and community development in addressing everyday challenges.
