The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Oluremi Fadairo, has reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustaining operations against separatist and other criminal groups threatening security in the South-East.
Fadairo, who also serves as Commander of the Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, said troops would continue to take lawful and decisive action against elements undermining peace and security in the region.
He spoke on Monday in Enugu while addressing participants of the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) Course 10/2026 during their Operational Theatre Visit to the Headquarters of 82 Division.
According to the GOC, the security situation within the Division’s Area of Responsibility remains relatively stable and under control, following sustained military operations against the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), its Eastern Security Network (ESN) and other criminal groups.
Fadairo said intelligence-driven operations, aggressive patrols and targeted clearance missions had helped dismantle criminal hideouts, disrupt activities and restrict the operational capabilities of armed groups across the region.
He said troops had recorded significant successes in stabilising the South-East but stressed the need for continuous operational assessment, intelligence gathering and adaptable security responses to tackle remaining threats.
The GOC urged the AWCN participants to apply lessons and operational insights gained during the tour in developing innovative and sustainable strategies for addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
He also emphasised the need for security forces to remain proactive and intelligence-led in protecting lives and property while preventing criminal groups from establishing operational footholds.
Fadairo disclosed that preparations were underway for intensified dry-season operations under Operation EASTERN SANITY II, aimed at maintaining pressure on criminal networks and preventing their resurgence.
“The armed forces will continue to employ lawful and decisive measures against elements whose activities threaten national security,” he said.
He added that the 82 Division would continue to work closely with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to strengthen security and consolidate peace in the South-East.
The operational visit, which ran from September 3 to 6, featured tours of sector Areas of Responsibility, a visit to the National War Museum, wargaming exercises and presentations on the achievements and challenges of Operation UDO KA.
The activities provided participants with practical insights into the operational environment, lessons from ongoing security operations, the complexities of tackling asymmetric threats and peace-building efforts in the South-East.
