Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), have rescued 12 civilians and foiled an attempted abduction during separate operations in Kaura Namoda and Tsafe Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Danja said troops responded to a distress call after terrorists invaded a residence at Tsohon Tasha in Kaura Namoda LGA and abducted six civilians.
According to him, the troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee across a nearby river.
The six rescued civilians were subsequently evacuated and reunited with their families.
In a separate operation in Tsafe LGA, troops monitoring activities along the Main Supply Route spotted terrorists attempting to intercept a Sharon vehicle at Kwanoni Village.
The troops immediately moved to the location and engaged the attackers, forcing them to abandon the operation and retreat into the surrounding bush.
Another six civilians were rescued during the intervention, bringing the total number of people rescued in the two operations to 12.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA said the operations demonstrated its troops’ commitment to protecting lives and property while denying terrorist groups freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.
The military urged residents to continue providing security agencies with timely and relevant information that could assist ongoing operations against terrorists and other criminal elements in the region.
