Danshagamu’s Murder: Police Arrest 2 Suspects as Kwankwaso demands thorough investigation

 

The Kano State Police Command has apprehended two suspects in connection with the murder of the renowned social media political commentator in Kano, Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu.

The arrest is coming as the Deputy Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Party, NDC, Engr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso called for thorough investigations into the murder.

Danshagamu was murdered hours after he posted a video calling for help from the police and the Emir of Kano over threats to his life by his neighbours.

He was found slaughtered in his house on Monday, 8th September, 2026.

The police command said its operatives in Kumbotso conveyed his body to Murtala Mohammad Specialists Hospital Kano where he was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor.

The police said that the Command’s tactical units and community stakeholders, conducted an intelligence-driven operation which resulted in the arrest of two suspects linked to the incident.

“The suspects are currently in custody undergoing interrogation,” the Command spokesman CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said in a statement.

“Statements are being obtained, and forensic procedures are ongoing to establish the full facts and motive behind the attack.”

Meanwhile, in a statement issued on Wednesday, Kwankwaso said, “I am deeply disturbed by the killing of the renowned social media political commentator Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, whose body was found today in a pool of his blood at his home in Kano.

“Dan Shagamu was brutally slaughtered in a horrific attack. I strongly urge the Kano State Government to immediately constitute an investigative panel to thoroughly probe this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Should the authorities fail to take decisive and transparent action, the incoming NDC Government will, upon assumption of office, launch a full investigation and take all necessary steps to hold those responsible accountable.

“I further call on both the State and Federal Governments to protect opposition voices from harm. The Nigerian Constitution guarantees freedom of expression for all citizens, and this right must shield everyone from threats, attacks, and intimidation.

“The Nigerian authorities must ensure a full investigation and that those responsible are held accountable.

“I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and followers. May Almighty Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus.”
