Kaduna Police Arrest Man Over Girlfriend’s Death in Romi

The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with the death of his girlfriend in the Romi area of Kaduna.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, September 11, 2026.

Hassan identified the suspect as Manaseh Bitrus Jatau, 35, while the deceased was named as Rebecca Ojonike Jeremiah, also 35, of Karatudu area, Kaduna.

According to the police, information received from the Officer-in-Charge of Romi Outstation at about 7:00 a.m. on September 5 indicated that Jeremiah’s body had been found along Mai Angwa Street, Romi, with cotton wool in her nose.

Police detectives from the outstation subsequently visited the scene and took her to St. Gerald Hospital, Kakuri, Kaduna, where a medical doctor pronounced her dead.

Her body was deposited at the hospital mortuary for an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police said preliminary investigations indicated that Jatau was the last person known to have been in contact with the deceased before her body was discovered.

Acting on the information, detectives traced and arrested him at his workplace, Tomato Jos Company, in the Maraban Jos area of Kaduna.

Hassan alleged that during questioning, the suspect admitted that he and the deceased had an altercation in his room following a phone call from another woman.

Police further alleged that the altercation resulted in Jeremiah’s death and that the suspect subsequently dumped her body in an open field near his residence in an attempt to conceal the incident.

The command said Jatau remains in police custody while investigations continue, adding that he would be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, CP Rabiu Muhammad, condemned acts of violence and urged residents to resolve disputes peacefully.

Muhammad also assured the public of the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims and bringing those responsible for criminal offences before the law.
