The Sokoto State Police Command on Monday arraigned six youths before a Chief Magistrate Court in Tambuwal for allegedly inciting public disturbance and damaging property.
Spokesperson for the command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, disclosed this in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Sokoto.
Rufai said the suspects are facing charges of criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance and mischief following a violent protest in Tambuwal town on Friday.
According to him, the protest was staged by some youths over alleged insecurity and the rising cost of living in the area.
He alleged that during the protest, the office of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Tambuwal was set ablaze, while other public and private properties were also damaged.
Rufai said the police would ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He also warned youths against taking the law into their own hands, urging residents to channel their grievances through peaceful and lawful means.
The police spokesperson reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property across Sokoto State.
