FUDMA’s Laboratories Among the Best in Nigeria — RRBN Registrar

The Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN) has commended the significant investment made by Federal UniversityDutsin-Ma (FUDMA), which has transformed its Radiography laboratories to being among the best in the country.

The commendation followed the successful completion of the professional accreditation assessment conducted by the board for the Department of Radiography in the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences of university.

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria, Dr. Idris Garba said a lot has been committed by the university in providing modern equipment, infrastructure, and other academic facilities,

The Registrar said his team was highly impressed by the facilities and developments, particularly the quality of infrastructure, substantial investment in equipment, staffing profile, learning environment, and the preparedness of students.

“FUDMA has one of the best laboratories I have ever seen so far,” Dr. Garba stated and specifically highlighted the four brand-new ultrasound machines acquired by the university, describing the development as remarkable.

“We are delighted with what we saw — the students’ readiness to learn, the enabling environment for teaching and learning, the staffing profile, the adequate number of office, and the four brand-new ultrasound machines. FUDMA is the first university where I have seen this kind of development,” he said.

While applauding the achievements recorded by the university, the RRBN Registrar, however, said that the accreditation team also identified some areas that require further improvement to strengthen the Department’s capacity and ability to produce highly competent and professionally sound graduates.

According to him, the university has demonstrated a strong commitment to providing an enabling environment for teaching and learning in radiography.

Among the recommendations made by the accreditation team was the need for the university to employ additional technologists and acquire digital radiography equipment as the profession has  considerably become digital.

The Registrar observed that reliance on traditional dark-room demonstrations is becoming outdated and encouraged the university to align its training facilities with contemporary professional practice.

The accreditation team further recommended the establishment of a virtual laboratory to support practical teaching and learning.

According to the Registrar, radiography is essentially a laboratory-based programme, and the introduction of appropriate virtual laboratory software would provide students with additional opportunities to develop practical knowledge and skills.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mohammed Khalid Othman, appreciated the team for the visit and assured that their recommendations would be implemented.
