2027: Zamfara Group Rejects Yari-Sheriff Alliance

Date:

A Zamfara-based group, the Zamfara Good Leadership and Development Initiative (ZGLDI), has rejected any political alliance between former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, and former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group made its position known in a letter dated September 15, 2026, addressed to Yari and signed by its National President, Comrade Zailani Muhammad Gusau.

The group said it remained committed to the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Yari’s political aspirations, but opposed any political association between the former governor and Sheriff.

Gusau said the position was based on concerns over Sheriff’s political history and public reputation, which he said could affect public confidence in the APC and its leaders.

He said political associations could influence grassroots support and the credibility of political movements, particularly as the 2027 elections draw closer.

“We therefore respectfully urge you to reconsider and avoid political associations with Senator Ali Modu Sheriff that may undermine the confidence of APC supporters and the wider public,” the group said.

The organisation said its position was not an opposition to Yari or the APC, stressing that it remained aligned with the party, Tinubu and the former governor.

Gusau said the appeal was aimed at protecting the reputation of the party and maintaining the confidence of its supporters.

The group urged Yari to consider the sentiments of APC members and supporters who, according to it, remained committed to the party and his leadership but did not support political collaboration with Sheriff.

“As the 2027 elections approach, we appeal to you to give serious consideration to the sentiments of party members and supporters who remain firmly aligned with the APC, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and your leadership, but who do not support political collaboration with Senator Ali Modu Sheriff,” it said.
