Dan’iya Sympathises with Sokoto Central Market Fire Victims, Seeks Urgent Relief

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Sokoto State, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, has sympathised with traders and business owners affected by the recent fire outbreak at Sokoto Central Market.

The inferno, which affected a section of the market around the Kofar Yan Mashin area, destroyed several shops, goods and other valuables, leaving many traders with significant losses.

In a statement signed by his Media Aide, Aminu Abdullahi, Dan’iya expressed gratitude that no life was reportedly lost and prayed for the recovery of those whose businesses and livelihoods were affected.

He described the incident as a painful setback for traders who depend on their businesses to support their families and contribute to the economy of Sokoto State.

“We share in the pain of every trader whose shop, goods and livelihood were affected. May Almighty Allah replace what has been lost with something better, strengthen the affected families and restore their means of livelihood,” he said.

Dan’iya expressed concern over recurring fire incidents at the market and called for a comprehensive review of fire-prevention and emergency-response measures.

He said authorities should prioritise adequate firefighting equipment, accessible emergency routes, reliable water supply, proper electrical installations and effective monitoring systems to protect lives, businesses and investments.

The ADC candidate also called on the Sokoto State Government and relevant agencies to provide immediate relief to affected traders and undertake necessary repairs and reconstruction of damaged shops.

According to him, assistance should be delivered transparently to ensure that genuine victims receive support and are able to resume their businesses as quickly and safely as possible.

“These traders should not be left alone to bear the burden of a disaster that has affected an important commercial centre of the state. Government must stand with them at this difficult moment,” Dan’iya said.

He further urged market associations, traders, shop owners and government agencies to strengthen safety measures through regular inspections and enforcement of fire-safety standards.

Dan’iya commended emergency personnel, traders and other individuals who helped contain the blaze and prevent further destruction.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with every trader affected by this unfortunate incident. We pray that this will be the last major fire disaster at the market and that stronger preventive measures will ensure that no trader has to experience this kind of loss again,” he said.
