Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday decorated 102 newly promoted officers of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority, describing their elevation as a testament to quality service delivery and institutional growth.
Makinde, represented by the Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Olabode Ladipo, at the ceremony held at the Local Government Staff Training Hall, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, said the promotions reflected the officers’ contributions to OYRTMA and the agency’s integration into the state civil service.
The governor, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olarenwaju, congratulated the officers and their families on the milestone.
He said the officers had been carefully observed and found worthy of elevation.
“The promotions further affirm the full integration of OYRTMA into the core civil service structure of Oyo,” Makinde said.
He noted that the promoted officers advanced to Grade Levels 13, 12, 10 and nine.
According to him, the development had come to stay, with some of the officers expected to rise to the highest levels of service in the coming years.
Makinde commended OYRTMA management for its reforms and urged the newly promoted officers to remain diligent in reducing road crashes and promoting safer road use across the state.
He said, “Some of the newly promoted officers will rise to the highest levels of service in the coming years.”
The Head of Service, Adenike Fashina, represented by the General Manager of the state Fire Service Agency, Akinyinka Adeyemi, also congratulated the officers and urged them to sustain their commitment to the state.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of OYRTMA, Major Adekoya Adesagba (Retd), thanked Makinde for approving the promotions and supporting staff welfare.
Adesagba said the promotions covered four categories.
Twenty-five officers were elevated from Principal Road Traffic Officer to Assistant Chief Road Traffic Officer, moving from Grade Level 12 to 13.
Eleven officers moved from Principal Road Traffic Superintendent II to Principal Road Traffic Superintendent I, while 16 others were upgraded from Road Traffic Superintendent to Principal Road Traffic Superintendent II.
Another 50 officers were promoted from Road Traffic Officer II to Road Traffic Officer I.
Adesagba also highlighted reforms introduced since his appointment in October 2023 to reposition the authority.
He said OYRTMA had adopted an enforcement approach involving enlightenment sessions for traffic offenders before trial.
The agency also established Special Marshals and Youth Volunteers, with 100 volunteers inaugurated.
Other reforms, he said, included the creation of the Road Traffic Offences Tribunal in collaboration with the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority and expansion of operational bases across the state.
Adesagba said OYRTMA had also recruited and trained 500 new officers and introduced the QR Code Jacket policy for more than 32,000 commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators.
He added that the agency had strengthened collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Police, Amotekun Corps, Operation Burst, Vehicle Inspection Officers and the Park Management System.
According to him, three additional statutory directorates were also created, bringing the number of directorates to five.
Adesagba urged the newly promoted officers to regard their elevation as a call to greater responsibility.
He charged them to redouble their efforts towards ensuring free traffic flow, reducing crashes and promoting a culture of road safety across Oyo State.
