BREAKING: 33 miners die in NSCDC custody 

A total of 33 suspected illegal miners have died in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Minna, Niger State.
The NSCDC had arrested scores of suspected illegal miners in M.I. Wushishi and Lukoto villages on September 15 and 16, who were subsequently detained.

The NSCDC, in a statement signed by the state Commandant, Suberu Siyaka Aniviye, confirmed the death of the detainees in the early hours of Thursday.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Rabiu, later put the number of those who died at 33.

Meanwhile, the NSCDC Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has constituted a team to investigative the incident.

The team, led by the Deputy Commandant General in charge of Intelligence and Investigation, has been mandated to undertake a comprehensive investigation into the deaths, including the condition of the suspects upon arrest, their period in custody, the conditions of detention, medical attention provided, and other relevant circumstances surrounding the incident.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the General Hospital, Minna, for medical examination and determination of the actual cause of death.

The Commandant General directed that the health and welfare of all persons currently in custody be given utmost priority.
