Paul Masiyer, an aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in the Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency of Plateau State, has withdrawn his legal challenge against the outcome of the party’s recently concluded primary election.
Masiyer, who announced the decision in a statement issued in Jos on Saturday, said he took the step following interventions by key stakeholders within the party.
He had approached the Federal High Court in Jos to challenge the outcome of the primary after losing to Ishaya Lalu, who emerged as the APC’s candidate for the constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Explaining his decision, Masiyer said the intervention of party elders, coupled with his Christian convictions and the need to preserve peace, influenced his choice to discontinue the case.
He said although seeking legal redress was within his rights, he had chosen to prioritize reconciliation, unity and the broader interest of the APC and the constituency.
“I have decided to withdraw the lawsuit I instituted against my party, the APC, regarding the recent primaries for Bokkos/Mangu federal constituency.
“I have instructed my legal team to immediately abide by this directive,” he said.
According to him, the decision reflects his respect for the counsel of party elders and his desire to prevent divisions that could weaken the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Leadership often requires sacrifices for peace, harmony and progress. We cannot build a stronger, prosperous party and constituency if our house remains divided,” he added.
Masiyer also appealed to his supporters to accept the decision and work for the success of the APC, urging them to support the party’s candidates across Plateau State in the 2027 general elections.
The withdrawal brings an end to his immediate legal challenge to the primary outcome and shifts attention to efforts to consolidate unity within the APC in the constituency ahead of the elections.
