Pandemonium over soldiers’ sporadic shootings in Yola

Yola, the Adamawa state capital, yesterday was thrown into confusion when soldiers, on re-enforcement to the troubled Michika and Madagali local government areas of state, went on a shooting spree and causing panic along Yola Jimeta road.

It was learnt that the incident occurred some kilometers to the Federal College of Education (FCE), Yola, where students and other concerned citizens were seen running in different directions to escape being hit by stray bullet.

Students of the FCE were the worst hit, as they thought that the Boko Haram insurgents that attacked the College of Education in Kano last week were in their school for another attack.

As the students ran helter-shelter, news spread that the FCE, Yola was under attack, which created pandemonium in other neighbouring areas.

This was heightened given the recent attack of the insurgents on FCE, Kano, which led to the loss of several lives; One of the students told journalists, “We had to run for our lives, fearing that Boko Haram are again on the loose.”

According to an eyewitness, several people were injured while scampering for their lives, particularly  female students that were going to the college.

Contacted, the Public Relations Officer of FCE, Yola, Malam Bashir Abdullahi, said the shootings were not in the college but in a nearby street leading to the Barracks.
