Uba Sani Approves N3.659 Billion for Retirees, Pays N21.455 Billion in Three Years

Governor Uba Sani has approved ₦3.659 billion for the payment of pensions, gratuities, and death benefits to retirees and the families of deceased public servants across Kaduna State and the local government councils.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, the governor said the latest approval covers 1,339 beneficiaries, including retirees and eligible families of deceased public servants under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) and the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

Maiyaki said the approved ₦3.659 billion brings the cumulative pension payments by the Uba Sani administration to ₦21.455 billion, covering 9,683 beneficiaries since it assumed office in May 2023.

Giving a breakdown of the 1,339 beneficiaries in the latest release, the commissioner said 210 local government retirees will receive ₦515 million under the Defined Benefit Scheme.

Under the Contributory Pension Scheme, a combined ₦3.144 billion has been approved for 1,129 beneficiaries, comprising 402 retirees from the state service and 727 retirees from the local government councils, he added.

According to the commissioner, of the 1,339 beneficiaries covered by the latest ₦3.659 billion approval, 210 are under the Defined Benefit Scheme, while 1,129 are under the Contributory Pension Scheme.

Maiyaki further said the latest intervention underscores the administration’s sustained commitment to systematically addressing outstanding pension liabilities while strengthening the integrity and long-term sustainability of Kaduna State’s pension system.

He added that the intervention forms part of broader public financial management reforms aimed at strengthening fiscal discipline, transparency, and accountability while establishing a more predictable and sustainable framework for meeting pension obligations.

“Governor Uba Sani remains committed to ensuring that those who devoted their productive years to the service of Kaduna State receive their legitimate entitlements with dignity.

“Pension payment is not a favor; it is an obligation to our retirees and the families of deceased public servants,” Maiyaki clarified.

The commissioner reaffirmed Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to sustaining pension reforms, progressively addressing outstanding liabilities, and ensuring that public servants can look forward to retirement with greater financial security, dignity, and peace of mind.
