A former Chairman of Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, Yahuza Musa, has been charged before a court over allegations that he illegally administered Pentazocine injection to a 63-year-old woman.
The Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking disclosed this during a press conference on its operations and achievements since its inauguration.
Chairman of the task force, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, said Musa was arrested following a complaint lodged by the woman over the alleged administration of the controlled drug.
Rimin-Gado said the task force subsequently received another complaint involving a 24-year-old man, who alleged that Musa also supplied and administered the same substance to him.
According to him, the young man claimed he spent more than N10 million and sold a plot of land to finance his purchase of the injection from the former council chairman.
“In a landmark operation, the Task Force acted on a complaint of illegal Pentazocine administration to a 63-year-old woman by the former Chairman of Rogo Local Government, Yahuza Musa,” Rimin-Gado said.
“This was corroborated by a 24-year-old young man who claimed he spent over N10 million and a plot of land on the purchase of the same injection from the former chairman.
“The former chairman has since been charged before a competent court of law and the case is ongoing.”
Rimin-Gado said the task force would continue to follow the case through the judicial process.
He also announced the conviction of two men, Kabiru Isa, also known as Mada, and Usman Hamisu, known as Mani, for supplying rubber solution, locally called “sholisho,” and other substances to 43 underage children engaged in street scavenging.
According to him, the children were allegedly given the substances as compensation instead of proper payment for their work.
He said all 43 children had been rescued, medically examined and placed under counselling and treatment, while efforts were ongoing to trace their families.
“Some families have already been identified and reunited with their children,” he said.
The task force chairman further disclosed that about 870,000 capsules of Pregabalin were seized from a pharmaceutical company in the state over suspected diversion for illicit use.
He said the circumstances in which the drugs were found raised concerns about compliance with federal and Kano State regulations governing pharmaceutical warehouse operations.
Rimin-Gado warned pharmaceutical companies, pharmacy managers, superintendent pharmacists and other industry personnel against diverting controlled medicines from legitimate supply chains.
“The Task Force therefore calls on pharmaceutical companies, pharmacy managers, superintendent pharmacists and all staff to cooperate fully with inspections and inquiries, review and strengthen their internal controls, and adopt transparent supply-chain practices,” he said.
He disclosed that since the task force was inaugurated on July 22, 2026, more than 380 suspects had been arrested and 230 convictions secured in operations targeting drug abuse and illicit trafficking across Kano State.
Rimin-Gado said joint operations had also dismantled suspected drug joints at Race Course, Filin Idi, Filin Mahaha, Tashar Rami, Kawo Area, Tashar Rimi and other locations.
He listed substances recovered during the operations as cannabis, Exol-5, Diazepam, Pentazocine injection, Tramadol, rubber solution, Pregabalin capsules and a substance containing methamphetamine, among others.
Rimin-Gado commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Correctional Service, Hisbah, Kano Road and Traffic Agency, civil society organisations, traditional and religious institutions, and the media for supporting the task force.
He urged residents to continue providing timely information to security agencies to support efforts to curb drug abuse, trafficking and related crimes across the state.
