NANS Passes Vote of Confidence in NTI DG, Hails Reforms

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone A, has passed a vote of confidence in the Director and Chief Executive of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna, Prof. Sadiya Sani Daura, citing reforms and efforts to address the backlog of graduates’ certificates.

The association announced its position on Friday, September 25, during a courtesy visit to Daura at the NTI headquarters in Kaduna.

Speaking during the visit, the Coordinator of NANS Zone A (North-West), Comrade Umar Suleiman Doko, said the delegation was at the institute to commend the management for responding to concerns affecting graduates, particularly the processing and release of outstanding certificates.

In an address presented on behalf of the NANS North-West Secretariat, Doko said the association recognised the steps taken by the NTI management to clear the backlog of certificates and improve services to graduates.

He said the measures were important in rebuilding confidence between the institute and its beneficiaries.

“We have seen an NTI leadership that connects policy with the people, and by extension, we have passed a vote of confidence in Prof. Daura’s administration,” the association said.

NANS also commended the management for what it described as efforts to strengthen internal systems, improve service delivery, revive standing committees, digitalise operations and prioritise staff welfare and promotions.

The students’ body further acknowledged the Federal Government’s focus on teacher and human capital development through the Accelerated Teacher Professionalisation Pathway (ATPP).

The programme is being implemented through NTI in collaboration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) and other partners.

According to NANS, the ATPP, which incorporates the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) pathways, could help strengthen teachers’ competence, professional standards and learning outcomes.

The association called for sustained government support for NTI to enable the institute to consolidate its reforms and strengthen teacher education across the country.

As part of the visit, NANS Zone A presented an Award of Excellence to Daura and inducted her into its Hall of Fame.

Responding, Daura said she regarded the challenges confronting the institute as surmountable when she assumed office and consequently adopted what she described as a solution-driven approach to administration.

She attributed the progress recorded by the institute to a participatory management style aimed at involving relevant stakeholders in decision-making and institutional reforms.

Daura described the NANS recognition as a testament to the administration’s efforts to reposition NTI, saying it would further motivate the management to pursue its institutional transformation agenda.

Earlier, the Acting Registrar and Secretary to the NTI Council, Mallam Yusuf Idris Aliyu, said management was concerned about difficulties surrounding the processing and release of outstanding certificates.

Aliyu said the institute was engaging relevant stakeholders to ensure that certificates were processed and released to graduates as promptly as possible.

Daura expressed optimism that the backlog would soon be substantially addressed, noting that the affiliating universities involved in the certification process were working with NTI to resolve outstanding issues.

She disclosed that another batch of pending certificates would soon be released, adding that affected graduates and members of the public would be notified through appropriate channels.

According to the institute, 16,715 certificates were released between February and September 2026, with additional batches expected.
