Lady Angela Ohuabunwa, popularly known as the Queen of Light or Light Angela Queen, on Saturday marked her birthday by hosting a charity outreach aimed at uplifting, empowering and advocating for widows in society.
As part of the initiative, she provided direct financial assistance, food packages, drinks and words of encouragement to 25 widows navigating the daily challenges of losing their spouses.
Lady Angela Ohuabunwa is the Visioneer and Founder of the Let Your Light Shine Radio Programme, a weekly broadcast aired on 104.5 Love FM Crowther Radio, Abuja.
“Because I’m a woman of compassion, that’s why I like doing it, by the grace of God.
“It’s not by my might, it’s not by power, but just by the grace of God,” she stated.
According to her, the vision for the initiative began years ago when she witnessed how society often turns its back on women following the loss of their husbands.
She recalled meeting a woman in her community who was once widely recognised and supported, only to be cast aside after her husband passed away.
“The moment she lost her husband, they drew the curtain against her, and she was rejected—nobody visited her.
“And I was drawn to reach out to widows and give them a sense of belonging,” she recounted.
Lady Angela used the gathering to share a message of spiritual strength and resilience, reminding the women that they are never truly forgotten.
“They shouldn’t feel as if they are rejected or abandoned. If they have God, they have everything.
“In Christ, there’s a complete package, so they should look up to God and trust in Him,” she emphasised.
She also urged the wider public to show love and respect to widows, warning against neglect and stressing that emotional support is just as important as financial assistance.
“If you don’t have anything to offer, but you have love to offer, give it to them.
“There are some rich widows who don’t even need your money, but they need your time, your words of encouragement and your visits. Just do something—reach out to them,” she added.
Ode Gloria, a chef and mother of three, described the gesture as an invaluable lifeline.
She recalled how a previous financial disbursement from the outreach came at a critical time when her children had been sent home from school over unpaid fees.
According to her, “She has been a good mother and a good sister. It is one thing for someone to have something, and another thing for that same person to have the heart to give. She is beautiful both inside and out.”
Another beneficiary, Mrs Elinor Otuobo, expressed similar joy, describing the event as one of the happiest days of her life.
“God used her to bless me, and now she has put a smile on my face and on the faces of the widows.
“I am going to use this, at least, to help my family and make sure my children eat,” Otuobo said.
Dr (Mrs) Lilian Anele, General Manager of 104.5 Love FM Crowther Radio, explained that the team helps to organise the annual event and would also visit the beneficiaries at their places of business to assess their progress.
“Every year, September is her birth month, so she gathers widows, gives them gifts and empowers them as much as she can.
“We have to visit them at their places of business to know how well they are faring. That is another step we are taking in this empowerment programme,” Dr Anele said.
She encouraged the widows to remain prayerful, resourceful and optimistic, reminding them that many widows have successfully raised their children to become prominent members of society.
