FUDMA VC ‘Drags’ Lecturers, Technologists Back To Classroom

The Vice Chancellor of Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman has ‘dragged’ some lecturers, technologists and technicians back to the classroom to upscale their knowledge on Ideal Laboratory Practices, Quality Management and Resource Requirements.

The classroom session was a one-day training for the affected academics, technicians and technologists, organised by the university’s Directorate of Equipment Maintenance (DEM).

The Vice Chancellor, represented by the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Muhammed Ghazali Garba, said the initiative was to enhance service delivery by bridging “the gap between an employee’s current working abilities and the skills needed to achieve peak performance for the overall growth and development of the staff and the University as a whole.”

Prof. Othman added that the training would transform their potential into valuable assets by building confidence, increasing output and aligning their strengths with overall goals of the University.

“The presentations to be provided during the workshop would contribute to finding workable solutions to challenges associated with equipment management and procurement”, he said while expressing his optimism that “the training would further promote proper, transparent and guided procurement practices within the University.”

The Vice Chancellor urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to improve the day to day laboratory practices in their respective units.

Also speaking, the representative of the Dean, Faculty of Physical Sciences, Dr. Adikwu Gowon, commended the university management for its foresight in organising the workshop.

He said, “the training will assist the academic and technical staff across various departments with the needed impetus to discharge their responsibilities more effectively and professionally”.

The Dean urged the participants to listen attentively and share the knowledge gained with their colleagues who could not attend the workshop.

Earlier, in her welcome address, the Director of DEM, Dr. Funmilola Balogun, said the motive behind the workshop “is to instill updated information unto the participants on Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) to enable them perform their responsibilities in line with global best practices”.

This, he said, would ensure that managerial quality system are embedded with integrity, consistency, and reliability, preventing fraud, errors and data falsification in laboratory testing.

Dr. Balogun expressed appreciation to the University management for its constant support and commitment towards the development of the Directorate, particularly for making the workshop a reality.

Mr. Silas Ekwuribe, a Laboratory Manager, Multi-User Science Research Laboratory, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, presented a paper on “Ideal Laboratory Practices and Resource Requirements for Technical and Academic Staff'”, while Mohammed Bashir Sani, from the Equipment Maintenance and Development Centre, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, presentation was on “Resource Requirements for Effective Laboratory Management”.

In a vote of thanks, Mr. Emmanuel Alabi, extolled the University management for professionally enriching the skills of the participants through the workshop, pleading with the Management to continue to organise such befitting workshops for staff of the University, in its quest to professionally enhance the operational capacity of its teeming personnel
