There was a mild drama in Koki area of Municipal local government area, in Kano state, when a 50 year-old, Malam Ahlan was caught trying to steal a bride price at a wedding Fatiha.
The incident happened penultimate weekend, when Mr. Ahlan, a resident of Kurna Asabe area of Dala local government area, was caught in a camera by a photographer, while inserting his hand into the pocket of the bridegroom’s kinsman, to pull out the N15,000 bride price tag.
Report has it that the bridegroom and his family had to source money to pay for the bride price before the end of the wedding ceremony.
The report added that Mr. Ahlan was later discovered to be the prime suspect, after the pictures taken at the wedding were printed out.
Piqued by the discovery, the area’s vigilante group embarked on a manhunt of the suspect, by distributing the pictures among members of the group and residents, for his arrest.
It was reported that the suspected thief finally met his waterloo and got arrested by the vigilante group, as he returned to the area during another wedding at the Koki mosque, at the weekend, to replicate the offence he had committed earlier.
Speaking, secretary, Koki Vigilante Group, Bala Yusuf, said, “We have been searching for him over the offence he committed two weeks ago. To our delight, we saw him attending another wedding on Sunday and might have been on a mission to steal another bride price. One of our group’s members saw him at the place and quickly alerted us and we instantly arrested him.”
Speaking also, the suspect, regretted his offence, saying “It is just fate and I don’t ordinarily steal bride price. It was only once that I stole it. I won’t commit another offence, by God’s grace”, he stated.
