From Bashir Rabe Mani in Sokoto
As Nigerians celebrate this year’s Independence Day, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Sokoto Specialist Hospital, Dr. Attahiru Isah has lauded the efforts being made to revive the lost glory of the hospital by Gov. Ahmad Aliyu.
He said that the intervention was apt, in view of the position of the hospital as a leading centre for qualitative healthcare delivery and referral services in the state.
The Chief Medical Director stated this while felicitating Nigerians on the country’s Independence Day.
Dr. Attahiru said the Specialist Hospital has been receiving special attention through comprehensive renovation, rehabilitation and remodelling of the hospital’s wards, theatre, laboratory and administrative blocks, as well as provision of modern medical equipment and essential drugs.
He added that the state government has also addressed the manpower deficit in the hospital through recruitment of additional doctors, nurses and other health professionals, while improving welfare packages to boost morale and retain skilled personnel.
Dr. Attahiru explained that the intervention would restore public confidence in the hospital, reduce medical tourism and ensure that citizens have access to affordable and qualitative healthcare.
He assured that the management of the hospital will sustain monitoring and evaluation to ensure standard service delivery and optimal utilization of facilities.
While commending the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruku Umar Abubakar Wurno, for his tireless efforts towards realizing the Governor’s vision for the health sector, the CMD appealed to the general public to always contact the management of the hospital for clarification on any issue, instead of spreading rumours.
