The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has completed modern Divisional Police Headquarters and residential staff quarters in Ushafa (Bwari Area Council) and Saburi (Abuja Municipal Area Council) to bolster security across fringe and satellite communities.

Director of the Security Services Department, FCTA, Mr. Adamu Gwary, announced the milestone during a site visit on Wednesday, confirming that both facilities are 100 percent complete and ready for official handover.

Gwary disclosed that the Ushafa and Saburi developments are part of a broader initiative involving 12 new Divisional Police Headquarters—two per area council—designed to eliminate security blind spots and decentralize law enforcement presence away from the city center.

“Out of the 10 ongoing projects, almost all have achieved more than 90 per cent completion, following Wike’s directive for all contractors to wrap up work before the end of November,” Gwary said.

It was gathered that the each standard facility features comprehensive operational and residential infrastructure:

Administrative Operations: Ground floor with central counter, detention rooms, and separate male and female cells. Upper floor with eight fully furnished offices, including an executive suit for the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).

Staff Quarters: On-site residential blocks containing six fully furnished two-bedroom ensuite flats to ensure rapid response and continuous officer presence.

The FCTA noted that the Ushafa complex and another division located 35 kilometers away at Igbu (near the FCT-Nasarawa border) are strategically positioned to secure rural areas and prevent cross-border criminality.

It added that before the official handover, a joint technical team from the FCDA Public Building Department and project contractors will verify all specifications against the original Bill of Quantities.

Reflecting on security interventions initiated following public town hall meetings in 2023, Gwary noted a measurable reduction in reported kidnappings and violent crimes across the territory.

He noted that beyond physical structures, the FCTA is expanding both technical surveillance and monthly logistical support for security agencies: “ tech-driven tracking, to ensure continuous monitoring of the Airport-to-Villa corridor via advanced technology at the Force Headquarters control room, with plans to expand coverage to other high-risk corridors.

“Finalizing deployment of aerial assets to track criminal elements across rugged and forested terrains.”

Reinforcing a zero-tolerance policy against internal collaborators, Gwary reiterated FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s stern warning that informants providing intelligence to kidnappers will face the exact same severe legal consequences as the perpetrators.

Site Engineer for the Ushafa project, Mr. Kabir Muhammed, expressed gratitude to the FCT Minister for the opportunity, confirming that construction adhered strictly to monitoring and evaluation benchmarks to finish on schedule.
