Wolves suffer first NPFL defeat, appeals to fans for patience

Warri Wolves suffered their first home defeat of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season after a narrow 1–0 loss to Enugu Rangers on Wednesday.

The visitors took the lead from the penalty spot in the 10th minute and held on to their advantage despite sustained pressure from the Seasiders.

Warri Wolves came close to restoring parity in the first half, with Sebastien Uche, wearing the number eight shirt, producing a fine individual effort after a good team move, but the visiting goalkeeper stood firm.

The Seasiders continued their search for an equaliser after the restart and made a double substitution, with Blessing Ndubuisi and James introduced for Alex and Othuke Egbo as the team sought greater attacking impetus.

Despite their efforts, the equaliser proved elusive as the visitors held on until the final whistle.

The result marks Warri Wolves’ first home defeat of the season, bringing an end to their positive home run.

Speaking in the post-match interview, Head Coach Hassan Abdallah apologised to the fans for the disappointment, stressing that the team was equally disappointed with the outcome.

The coach promised that the team would regroup, assess the performance and return stronger in the next outing.

The Seasiders now turn their attention to their next assignment — an away clash against newly promoted Doma United in Gombe.

Warri Wolves will be looking to bounce back immediately and return to winning ways when the two sides meet in their next NPFL fixture.
