The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, has urged residents across the territory to cultivate harmony, mutual love, and tolerance, describing Abuja as the ultimate symbol of national unity and a beacon of hope for the African continent.

Delivering an official address to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1, the Minister reflected on the nation’s journey while emphasizing the theme: “From Reforms to Stability: Consolidating Nigeria’s Renewed Hope for Shared Prosperity.”

Extending warm greetings to all residents, Wike emphasized that Abuja’s true strength lies in its diversity as a melting pot for all Nigerians, regardless of tribe, faith, or background.

“I urge us to continue to coexist in harmony, showing the love and tolerance that make our city a true home for all.

“Let this anniversary serve as a reminder of what we can achieve when we work with a shared purpose and a unified vision.

“Together, we will build an FCT that we can all be proud of — a beacon of hope and prosperity for the entire African continent,” Wike stated.

Highlighting key developments under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, the Minister outlined targeted investments designed to extend basic infrastructure and services to both urban centers and rural communities.

He revealed complete overhauls of road networks spanning from the City Centre to remote rural areas, featuring modern drainage structures and solar-powered street lighting to expand accessibility and deter criminal activity in outlying settlements.

He added there is deployment of modern technology, enhanced community policing structures, and intensified security surveillance across the territory.

With Nigeria approaching the next general elections scheduled for January 2027, the Minister urged all residents to protect public infrastructure from vandalism and remain law-abiding.

He encouraged the electorate to support progressive, visionary leadership capable of sustaining the ongoing developmental projects within the capital territory.
