Many traders at the popular Kugbo Furniture Market, along the busy Abuja-Keffi Expressway are making urgent appeals for government assistance following a sudden fire outbreak, that swept through the hub on Friday, wiping out investments worth millions of naira.
For many shop owners, months of hard work turned to ashes within minutes on Friday.
The inferno, reportedly triggered by an electrical spark when power was restored, consumed finished furniture, heavy machinery, and raw timber materials.
Desperate traders were seen pulling what little they could from the flames, while others watched helplessly as the fire destroyed their livelihoods.
However, responders and emergency services later deployed additional units to prevent the blaze from encroaching on neighboring structures.
It was gathered that though no lives were lost, the economic blow to the traders is devastating.
Some of the distressed business owners are calling on emergency management agencies and the FCT administration to conduct an immediate assessment of the disaster and provide relief materials to help them rebuild.
