Lawal unveils projects as Zamfara marks 30th anniversary

Date:

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has inaugurated key projects to mark the 30th anniversary of the state, declaring that his administration’s “rescue mission” is transforming the state through infrastructure and institutional reforms.

Lawal stated this on Thursday at the national Independence Day parade and Zamfara’s 30th anniversary celebration held at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau, the state capital.

Zamfara was created on October 1, 1996, out of the former Sokoto State.

The anniversary celebration attracted the pioneer military administrator of the state, Jibril Yakubu; former governors Ahmed Sani Yarima and Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi, among other dignitaries.

The governor said Zamfara had moved from what he described as despair to an era of “clear execution, transparency and sustainable development”.

He urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil servants, traders and youths to unite in protecting peace and accelerating development across the state.

“We must set aside divisions — ethnic, political, sectarian — and protect the peace we fought for,” Lawal said.

On Friday, the governor inaugurated the third phase of the renovated and modernised J.B. Yakubu Secretariat in Gusau.

He said the project formed part of his administration’s efforts to rebuild government institutions and establish a modern, efficient and technology-driven public service.

According to him, the renovated secretariat would enhance coordination among ministries, departments and agencies, improve communication and facilitate faster implementation of government decisions.

The J.B. Yakubu Secretariat houses several MDAs responsible for governance and public service delivery in the state.

Speaking at the event, Yakubu, the pioneer military administrator, commended the Lawal administration for its projects, particularly in infrastructure, education and healthcare.

Also during the anniversary activities, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, inaugurated the reconstructed and remodelled Jumu’at Mosque, popularly known as Yardole, alongside its adjoining shopping complex.

The mosque, named after the late Islamic scholar, Malam Sambo Dan Ashafa, is expected to also serve as an Islamic and research learning centre.

The projects, inaugurated as part of the anniversary activities, formed part of the state government’s broader efforts to mark three decades of Zamfara’s existence while highlighting its development priorities.
