Northern youths back Tinubu for second term

Date:

A coalition of Northern youth groups has declared its support for President Bola Tinubu completing two terms in office, insisting that power rotation must be respected to preserve Nigeria’s political stability and national unity.

The group, under the aegis of the Northern Youth Frontiers, also cautioned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar against what it described as attempts to disrupt the established principle of rotational presidency for personal political ambition.

In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Sama Musa, the coalition said consultations were already underway with political leaders and other stakeholders across the North ahead of the 2031 elections.

The group said it was in no hurry to reclaim the Presidency before 2031, arguing that the political arrangement was designed to rotate power between the North and South rather than serve individual ambitions.

“We have no problem whatsoever waiting until 2031. Power rotation in Nigeria is structured to rotate between the North and the South, not personal ambitions,” the coalition said.

The Northern youths also accused Atiku of attempting to create divisions among Nigerians in pursuit of his presidential ambition.

They argued that the former Vice President’s political timeline should not determine the broader interests of the Northern region.

“Presidency is rotated among regions, not individuals; Atiku does not represent the entirety of the North,” Musa stated.

He said the North had produced several influential leaders and remained capable of producing quality leadership whenever its turn came.

“The North has existed long before now and will continue to thrive, just as it did after great leaders like Sir Ahmadu Bello, Muhammadu Buhari, Mallam Aminu Kano, Maitama Sule and Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.

“Our region has never been bereft of quality human capital,” he added.

The coalition said the North remained a “resilient, permanent pillar” of Nigeria, adding that its political consultations would continue ahead of 2031.

It maintained that the region’s political interests should take precedence over the ambitions of individual politicians.

The group therefore urged Northern stakeholders to preserve the existing power-sharing arrangement and resist attempts capable of undermining national cohesion.

The Northern Youth Frontiers concluded that 2031 remained the next turn for the North, stressing that no individual’s ambition would be allowed to disrupt what it described as Nigeria’s political balance.
