An association representing 58 deregistered political parties in Sokoto State has declared support for the re-election bids of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Aliyu ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing what it described as development achievements recorded under their leadership.
The declaration was made during a press conference held in Sokoto on Monday,  attended by representatives of the deregistered political parties under the association.
Chairman of the Association of Deregistered Political Parties in Sokoto State, Ahmed Ja’o, who addressed journalists on behalf of the group, said its members had assessed developments in the state over the past three years and resolved to support Governor Aliyu for another term.
Ja’o said the association was particularly impressed by what it described as the administration’s interventions in infrastructure, rural development, workers’ welfare and religious affairs.
Among the issues highlighted by the group was the Urban Renewal Programme, which it said had brought changes to parts of Sokoto metropolis, alongside rural road projects aimed at improving access and connectivity across communities in the state.
The association also cited the implementation of the new minimum wage and the government’s efforts to settle outstanding gratuities owed to retired civil servants.
According to the group, about N14 billion in gratuity arrears had been cleared by the state government, a development it described as an important intervention in the welfare of retired workers.
Religious programmes also featured in the association’s assessment of the administration. It cited the construction of more than 60 Jumu’at mosques and the re-establishment of the Sokoto State Hisbah Board among the initiatives that influenced its decision.
Ja’o said the association believed that the programmes provided grounds for its members to support Governor Aliyu’s bid for another term in office.
The group equally extended its political backing to President Tinubu, declaring support for his re-election bid and calling on its members and supporters to work towards the continuation of the APC-led administrations at both the federal and state levels.
Representatives of the deregistered parties who attended the press conference affirmed the declaration and appended their signatures to the joint statement.
Among the political party names represented on the document were KOWA, APA, CPP, AAP, ASD, APDA, CNP, BNPP and ANRP, among others.
The association maintained that its declaration represented a collective decision by its members and said they would work together towards their stated political objective ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The declaration adds to the political alignments and endorsements emerging in Sokoto State as political groups intensify activities ahead of the 2027 polls.
