The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Taraba State Wing, has urged the Taraba State Government to implement the promotions and annual salary increments of teachers as and when due.
The NUT State Chairman, Comrade Nathan Solomon, made the call in Jalingo during activities marking the 2026 World Teachers’ Day.
Solomon commended the state government for settling outstanding arrears owed to teachers, saying the payment had provided relief to many members of the union.
He, however, appealed to the government to ensure the timely implementation of promotions and annual increments, describing them as important incentives for boosting teachers’ morale and productivity.
> “We appreciate His Excellency for paying outstanding arrears owed to teachers. This gesture has brought considerable relief to our members. We appeal to government to implement promotions and annual increments as and when due,” he said.
The NUT chairman also called on the government to promote deserving teachers to Grade Level 17 in recognition of their experience, professionalism and contributions to the education sector.
He further advocated the appointment of qualified and experienced teachers as permanent secretaries in the state civil service, arguing that their expertise could contribute meaningfully to policy formulation and implementation.
Speaking on the theme, “Standing with Teachers: 60 Years of Promoting the Profession, Advancing Its Status and Shaping the Future,” Solomon said teachers remained central to the development of every successful education system.
According to him, teachers play a critical role in shaping character, inspiring young people and preparing them for responsible citizenship.
He urged the state government to sustain investment in education through regular training for teachers, provision of adequate teaching facilities, timely payment of salaries and improved welfare packages.
Solomon also reaffirmed the NUT’s commitment to working with the government to improve the quality of education and protect the dignity of the teaching profession.
He described teaching as a noble profession and a service to humanity, urging teachers to remain committed to providing quality education to children across the state.
