NASU urges FG to release funds for earned allowances

The National Executive Council (NEC) of Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), has urged federal government to release funds for the payment of the balance of the Earned Allowances of Universities in Nigeria.

The National President of the association, Comrade(Mrs.) Ladi Iliya who stated this during the NEC meeting of the association in Ilorin on Wednesday said Federal Government should constitute new negotiating team on 2009 NASU\FGN agreement stressing that it was long overdue.

Iliya, while addressing delegates said the association commended federal government over the release of N30 billion for federal and Inter-University Centres for the first tranche of Earned Allowances stressing that state governments as proprietors of some Universities should emulate federal government.

The NASU President, who condemned some state governments that had reduced minimum wage of N18,000 under the guise of inadequate resources, asking them to rescind their action immediately.

“We implore such states to emulate states such as Oyo and Kwara that have recently announced increment in the salaries of their civil servants.”

The association, which commended the Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau for his intervention on eight months industrial strike by Nigeria Polytechnic and urged him, to resolve issues that caused the strike promptly.

On corruption, the association lamented that the graft has been accepted as norm in Nigeria, in all its sectors stressing that Nigerians must not relent in their efforts at stamping it out of the system.
