Says no family should have to face hunger and insecurity same time
By Lateef Ibrahim, Abuja
Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Alhaji
Atiku Abubakar has called on Nigerians to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and use their votes to demand better living conditions and improved security in the country.
Atiku made the appeal in a video message shared on his X page, where he criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the rising cost of living and insecurity affecting households across Nigeria.
The ADC presidential flag bearer accused Tinubu of making life more expensive for Nigerians and pledged to address the economic difficulties facing citizens.
He appealed, particularly, to parents, pensioners and young people, saying many Nigerians were struggling to meet basic needs despite their efforts to earn a living.
Atiku equally expressed concern over kidnapping and violent attacks, noting that insecurity had left families worried about the safety of their loved ones.
Speaking in the video, he said, “My fellow Nigerians, young and old, I know the pain you are carrying.
“Parents go to bed worried about what they will feed their children with tomorrow. Pensioners must choose between buying medicine and buying food.
“Young people work hard, yet transport, rent and basic needs consume what they earn.
“And across the country, families live with the fear of kidnapping, attacks and whether their loved ones will return home safely.
“No family should have to face hunger and insecurity at the same time. We cannot allow this hardship and fear to become the future our children inherit”, he said.
The former Vice President encouraged eligible voters to take their participation in the electoral process seriously, describing the PVC as an important means of influencing the country’s political direction.
He called on registered voters who had yet to collect their cards to do so, stressing that voting offered Nigerians a peaceful opportunity to seek changes in governance.
His words, “If you are a registered voter, please go and collect your PVC. Hold on to it. It is your voice, your choice and your peaceful power to demand change.”
Atiku blamed the Tinubu administration for the economic pressure facing Nigerians, while presenting himself as an alternative capable of addressing the situation.
He said, “Bola made life expensive. I will work to make life affordable again and restore the security every Nigerian deserves.
‘Let us stand together, across generations, and vote for a Nigeria where every family can live with dignity, safety and hope.”
Atiku’s appeal places voter participation at the centre of his political message, linking the collection of PVCs to Nigerians’ ability to express their preferences in the coming elections.
He said, “My fellow Nigerians, young and old, I know the pain you are carrying.
“Parents go to bed worried about what they will feed their children with tomorrow.
“Pensioners must choose between buying medicine and buying food. “Young people work hard, yet transport, rent and basic needs consumed”, he stressed.
