The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo for faulting President Bola Tinubu’s plan to attend selected campaign rallies ahead of the 2027 general election.
Adebayo had described Tinubu’s plan to skip rallies in some states as a sign of weakness, arguing that a president who was too tired to campaign nationwide was unfit to govern.
“The truth is that the President is terrified of the Nigerian people,” the SDP candidate said, accusing Tinubu of failing to provide reassurance during critical national moments.
However, in a statement on Thursday, Lagos APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo urged Adebayo to concentrate on building his party rather than criticizing the president’s campaign strategy.
Oladejo described the SDP candidate’s remarks as an attempt by opposition politicians to create unnecessary controversy over a legitimate political decision.
According to the APC, Tinubu’s responsibilities as president mean he does not need to attend every campaign rally to demonstrate his leadership credentials.
“President Tinubu does not need to be physically present at every campaign event to establish his credentials,” the party said, citing his political experience, record in office and national reach.
The APC added that Tinubu’s decision reflected confidence in the party’s campaign machinery and its experienced political allies to coordinate activities across the country.
