The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has heightened surveillance across the country’s airports following a confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease in the Federal Capital Territory, assuring travellers of measures to protect public health.
FAAN said it was working with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Port Health Services, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and other relevant agencies to support containment efforts.
The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, disclosed this in a statement, saying the authority was maintaining heightened vigilance across airport operations.
He said the agency would continue to coordinate its response with public health authorities to address potential health threats.
Agbebire said the early identification of the case and the commencement of contact tracing highlighted the importance of effective surveillance and collaboration among relevant agencies.
“The early identification of the case and commencement of contact tracing underscore the importance of established public health protocols, effective surveillance and inter-agency collaboration in responding to potential health threats,” he stated.
He added that FAAN would follow further guidance from health authorities and support additional measures considered necessary to protect passengers, airport workers and the general public.
“FAAN is maintaining heightened vigilance across airport operations and will continue to coordinate with public health authorities, align its response with further guidance and support additional measures considered necessary to safeguard passengers, airport personnel and the wider public,” Agbebire said.
The authority urged passengers, airport users, airlines and other aviation stakeholders to remain calm, vigilant and cooperative with health officials as efforts to contain the case continued.
It also advised members of the public to rely on verified information and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports capable of triggering unnecessary panic.
FAAN reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant agencies to safeguard public health while ensuring the safe operation of Nigeria’s airports.
