Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has mocked Peter Obi, the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), saying the former Anambra State governor can only emerge president on social media.
Wike made the remark on Saturday during a stakeholders’ town hall meeting in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he questioned Obi’s suitability to govern Nigeria.
The minister said he would support Obi if the contest were for the title of social media president but maintained that the NDC candidate lacked what it takes to lead the country.
“Truly speaking, I give Obi president of social media. If you were voting for the president of social media, I would vote for him,” Wike said.
He also described Obi as a stingy politician, arguing that Nigeria’s economy could not be entrusted to him.
Wike has consistently criticised Obi and other opposition presidential hopefuls as political activities ahead of the 2027 general election intensify.
The FCT minister, who is also involved in coordinating the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign in Abuja and Rivers State, has repeatedly expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s chances of securing re-election.
He has dismissed the prospects of opposition candidates, insisting that Tinubu would win the forthcoming presidential election.
