The senator representing Kano South Senatorial District, Sulaiman Abdurrahman Kawu-Sumaila, has distributed 16 vehicles, 400 motorcycles and 600 sewing machines to constituents as part of his empowerment programme.
The distribution took place at Kwanar Dawaki, Kano State, on Monday, during the senator’s 12th empowerment programme since 2023.
The initiative was aimed at supporting All Progressives Congress officials, strengthening small businesses and creating employment opportunities across the district.
Under the programme, 16 vehicles were presented to APC local government chairmen, while 400 motorcycles went to party executives across the local government areas.
The senator also provided 200 tailors with empowerment packages comprising two standard sewing machines and one industrial sewing machine each.
The initiative, according to the lawmaker, was designed to strengthen tailoring businesses and enable beneficiaries to employ and train others.
Speaking at the event, Kawu-Sumaila said the programme was part of his efforts to translate the trust reposed in him by constituents into tangible development and sustainable livelihoods.
He acknowledged the economic and developmental challenges facing the people over the past three years but insisted that his commitment to delivering democratic dividends to Kano South remained unchanged.
The senator also listed his interventions in security, road infrastructure, agriculture, education, healthcare and water supply.
On security, he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting efforts to protect lives and property, particularly in communities across the district.
He commended local vigilante members, popularly known as Yan Sa-kai, for their efforts to secure Falgore Forest in Doguwa Local Government Area.
On infrastructure, the lawmaker said several roads had been constructed, bridges built, drainage systems installed and damaged roads rehabilitated to improve transportation and commercial activities.
He said farmers had also benefited from agricultural machinery, farming implements, improved seeds and thousands of bags of fertiliser to support wet- and dry-season farming.
In the water sector, Kawu-Sumaila said boreholes, including motorised, solar-powered and hand-pump facilities, had been provided in various communities to improve access to clean water.
He added that schools had been constructed and rehabilitated, learning materials supplied, and more than 1,000 students supported in secondary and tertiary institutions.
According to him, healthcare facilities across the district have also been renovated and equipped with modern medical equipment to improve access to healthcare services.
The senator expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the opportunity to serve, saying the achievements recorded during his first term showed what dedicated leadership could accomplish despite prevailing challenges.
He, however, appealed to constituents to remain patient and supportive, acknowledging that it was impossible for one individual to meet every personal request.
Kawu-Sumaila assured the people that he would continue to pursue human capital development, economic empowerment and improved living standards across Kano South.
