Gombe State Governor and Chairman of the Northern Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NNGF), Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has lauded the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, describing his 20-year reign as a pillar of peace, national cohesion, and exemplary leadership across Nigeria.
Yahaya made the remarks in a congratulatory message issued on Monday to mark the 20th anniversary of the monarch’s accession to the throne of the Sokoto Caliphate.
Speaking on behalf of the Gombe State Government and the NNGF, Yahaya highlighted the Sultan’s pivotal role as President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Chairman of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council.
He noted that the spiritual leader has consistently bridged religious and ethnic divides by promoting interfaith dialogue and harmony throughout his two decades on the throne.
The NNGF chairman emphasized that the Sultan’s constructive engagement with political authorities has significantly aided northern governors in navigating security, economic, and social challenges within the region.
“His fatherly guidance, statesmanlike disposition, and commitment to the collective aspirations of Northern Nigeria remain a vital source of inspiration to the governors as we pursue peace, security, and improved welfare for our people,” Yahaya stated.
The governor concluded by offering prayers for the Sultan’s continued good health, strength, and wisdom to lead the Sokoto Caliphate and the Nigerian Muslim Ummah in the years ahead.
