Taraba only northern state yet to implement the 2025 FG/ASUU agreement, says ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Yola Zone, declared on Tuesday that Taraba State remains the sole state among the 19 northern states yet to implement the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement.

Expressing full solidarity with the Taraba State University (ASUU-TSU) branch during an ongoing strike, the union called on Governor Agbu Kefas to honour the agreement and implement its provisions without further delay.

Addressing journalists in Jalingo, the Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Dani Mamman, stated that the strike was triggered by the state government’s repeated failure to implement the agreed remuneration framework despite completing all required verification and consultation processes.

“The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Yola Zone, hereby expresses its unequivocal solidarity with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Taraba State University Branch, in its ongoing strike arising from the persistent failure of the Taraba State Government to implement the agreed remuneration framework,” Mamman said.

He noted that the report of the Taraba State Government’s fact-finding team—officially presented to the union on September 24, 2026, following verification visits to state universities across the North-East—confirmed that all other institutions visited had fully implemented the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement.

Mamman questioned why the state government continues to subject the union to administrative delays and is reportedly considering partial salary computations under 95 percent, 98 percent, and 100 percent scenarios rather than executing the agreed terms.

“Taraba State University remains one of the very few universities and, to the best of our knowledge, the only university within the 19 northern states, if not the entire country, that is yet to implement the agreed remuneration framework arising from the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement,” he added.

The Yola Zone demanded the immediate, full implementation of the remuneration framework, the complete settlement of all accumulated arrears, strict adherence to the payment template, and meaningful direct engagement between the state government and ASUU-TSU.

Emphasizing that industrial harmony is a shared responsibility, Mamman urged public stakeholders to intervene and encourage the Taraba State Government to resolve the dispute.
