Melaye: Convoy attack exposes Tinubu, APC’s desperation

Date:

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Dino Melaye, has accused President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress of panicking ahead of the 2027 general election following an alleged attack on the party’s campaign convoy in Kebbi State.

Melaye alleged that gunmen opened fire on two vehicles conveying ADC members who travelled from Abuja to Kebbi for the party’s campaign.

He, however, said nobody was killed or injured in the incident.

The former Kogi West senator spoke on Thursday during the ADC campaign in Kebbi State, where he condemned the alleged attack and vowed that the party would not be intimidated.

According to him, the incident was an attempt to frighten opposition members ahead of the 2027 elections.

Melaye said, “We will not allow ourselves to be intimidated. We are going to win this election by the grace of the Almighty God.

“On our way from the airport, those of our colleagues who came in from Abuja, two of our vehicles were fired at. They fired guns at two of our vehicles and, amazingly, God Almighty protected everybody in the bus.”

He accused those behind the alleged attack of strengthening the ADC’s resolve rather than weakening its political ambition.

“They will continue to do it, and what they are doing is that they are lionising our people. We have decided to vote ADC and nothing will change it,” he added.

Melaye also accused Tinubu and the APC of becoming increasingly unsettled by the growing opposition ahead of the next general election.

“Tinubu and APC have entered what I call panic mode. He is crying every time about Atiku,” he said.

The alleged attack comes amid heightened political activities and manoeuvring among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general election.

There was no immediate response from the APC or security agencies to Melaye’s allegations.
