From Mustapha Adamu, Kano
The Kano State Government has announced the revival of the Tudun Wada Water Treatment Plant, marking another milestone in Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s efforts to restore the state’s deteriorating water sector.
Announcing the development in a statement on Friday, the state’s Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr Dahiru M. Hashim, said the plant, which has an installed capacity of 4.5 million litres per day, was back in service.
According to him, the plant will initially supply 2.2 million litres of water daily to Gawo, Tsauni, Tsohuwar Nitel and Unguwar Gabas communities, while efforts are ongoing to upgrade it to its full capacity.
He explained that the intervention also includes pipeline repairs and the fixing of leakages to ensure effective water distribution to households across the benefiting communities.
“After years of neglect and prolonged inactivity, the Tudun Wada Water Treatment Plant is back in service, producing 2.2 million litres of clean and safe water per day and restoring running taps in Gawo, Tsauni, Tsohuwar Nitel and Unguwar Gabas communities.
“I conducted an on-site visit to the plant, which has been rehabilitated under the dedicated leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
“To ensure effective distribution across the benefiting communities, the intervention includes pipeline repairs and the fixing of leakages so that water reaches households without avoidable losses.
“Beyond this phase, the plant will be upgraded to its full capacity of 4.5 million litres per day, supported by population growth and the availability of raw water. This will extend water supply to other communities and villages across the Local Government Area,” the commissioner said.
Hashim assured residents that the ministry would maintain strict supervision to ensure operational efficiency and sustain the plant’s performance as efforts continue to restore it to full capacity.
“Our objective is to provide safe and reliable water to urban, rural and semi-urban communities, ensuring that every investment in water infrastructure translates into sustainable improvements in the livelihoods of the good people of Kano State,” he said.
The commissioner commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his commitment to reviving the state’s water sector and promoting meaningful development.
