President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of the Ibom Deep Sea Port in Akwa Ibom State, describing the project as a major catalyst for economic growth and development in the South-South region.

Tinubu announced the approval on Friday during the APC presidential rally at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, following a request by Governor Umo Eno.

“Your request for the Ibom Deep Sea Port is hereby approved. The port will bring associated economic value and development to the people,” the President said.

He commended Eno for his infrastructure and human capital development initiatives, recalling his earlier approval for the upgrade of Victor Attah International Airport to international status.

Tinubu also urged young Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and assess politicians based on their credibility and performance ahead of the January 16, 2027 general elections.

He defended his administration’s economic policies, claiming that Nigeria had moved beyond the financial difficulties that previously left many state governments unable to meet salary and pension obligations.

Vice President Kashim Shettima praised Akwa Ibom and other South-South states for supporting the APC administration, while Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri commended Tinubu for major projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio also praised the President for approving three federal institutions for Akwa Ibom: a Federal University of Agriculture, a Federal University of Technology and a Police Academy.

Governor Eno described the approval of the deep sea port as a major achievement, expressing gratitude to the President for granting the state’s long-standing request.

Earlier, Tinubu commissioned the new Victor Attah International Airport terminal, Ring Road 3, linking Idoro Road to Ikot Ekpene Road through Uyo and Ibiono Ibom, and the Arise Palm Resort.

The President’s visit was part of his engagements in Akwa Ibom State, where political leaders and supporters gathered to reaffirm their support for his administration.
