Benue: Suswam’s aide laments high rate of ghost workers in LGAs

From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi Special Adviser to Governor Gabriel Suswam on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Solomon Wombo has decried the high rate of ghost workers in some councils in the State. Prince Wombo, who made this lamentation yesterday during in an interaction with Journalists in Makurdi, regretted that some council engages these illegal staff using fake employment letters. He disclosed that there are over 29,000 workers in the 23 local government areas of the state, frowning a situation where a local council which is supposed to have just 400 staff instead has over 1000. Wombo, intimated that his office has put in place an automated salary system which will be operational in October 2014, even as expressed optimism that the system will go a long way in eliminating ghost workers in the tier of governance in the state.
