As Nigeria marks her 54th independence anniversary, the United Progressives Party (UPP) has said that the state of the nation is bad,
lamenting that Nigeria is at crossroads over Boko Haram attacks and corruption.
“Nigeria is at crossroads, being attacked by Boko Haram insurgents and infected with corruption that has eaten deep into the marrow of our national life, which has disillusioned the citizenry awaiting a grand alliance of progressive government led by UPP in 2015”, a statement issued by Dike Ogbuehi, the publicity secretary of the party said.
The party also said the 2014 independence anniversary calls for sober reflection and prayers for divine intervention in charting and piloting the ship of the Nigerian state to the path of rectitude, development and advancement.
It assured that the long national nightmare will soon be over as the party, in coalition with like-minded political parties are set to redefine politics and governance in Nigeria in 2015.
“Accordingly, UPP has zoned its presidential ticket to the South East geopolitical zone and enjoins eligible aspirants from the zone to vie for the position. It is obvious that the presidential election will be an epic democratic encounter between the PDP, APC and progressive parties led by UPP”, the statement further said.
While pointing out that the coast is getting clearer as the battle-line is now drawn between progressive forces and reactionary forces, UPP said it is the change agent waiting to transform Nigeria’s frail democracy and restore national pride and dignity to long-suffering Nigerians.
It urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to sit up and prepare adequately for the 2015 general election and avoid controversial policies and actions as Nigerians, indeed the whole world will not accept any flimsy excuse for poor performance.
“Nigerians expect free, fair, transparent, acceptable and credible elections where the people’s vote will be counted and count in the overall result. We predict that there will be several upsets in 2015 polls. The will of the electorate expressed through the ballot box must prevail”, the party said.
