IAAF shortlists athletes for award without Okagbare

The blistering performances of Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare in the2014 Athletics season was still not able to earn her place in the final shortlist of 10 men and 10 women announced by the IAAF on Friday for the 2014 World Athlete of the Year Award.

According to world athletics body, the candidates in the run for the prestigious award were selected by an international panel of athletics experts which include representatives from all six continental areas of the IAAF.

At the conclusion of the voting process, three male and three female finalists will be selected and announced by the IAAF.

The Council of the International Athletics Foundation will then select the male and female winners, with the announcement taking place live on stage during the 2014 World Athletics Gala on Friday, November 21.

Although Okagbare may have missed out on a nomination from IAAF, the Nigerian sprint star will nonetheless be proud of her performances this season which includes, amongst others, winning the 100m and 200m gold at the Commonwealth Games in which she set a new Games Record in the latter.

Also, Okagbare, who has been shortlisted for several awards on the home front, was only recently a recipient of the MFR award.
