A video jockey turned singer, Adams, has boasted that his upcoming album will be the best by any VJ alive.
The Soundcity VJ, who early this year released a single, Whazup featuring Harrysong, spoke to PREMIUM TIMES about his career and music.
PT:You are primarily known as a VJ but you have released three singles so far; did you veer into music, motivated by the fame and wealth of musicians?
Adams: Never took a career in singing, but I put out music as an executive producer and certainly not for the fame, I’m the no. 1 VJ, remember?
PT: Of course, you would say your music has been well received. However, I feel it does not get reasonable airplay; why do you think this is or don’t you drop “Payola” for your fellow on air personalities, OAPs?
Adams: If I get on stage to host a gig and the introductory song is mine and people sing along, I think its safe to say my fellow OAPs have certainly supported.
PT: What is your perception of the Nigerian music industry and how are you coping with the challenges of the industry?
Adams: Although I don’t sing, however, I think the Nigerian music industry has evolved but we still have a lot to do in terms of merchandise and monetizing.
PT: What exactly do you hope to achieve with your music career?
Adams: We can’t ignore the importance of relevance in the life of an entertainer and also use this to help a few young acts; like I did with my first song, Winner, featured Splash, Pheel alongside already famous Iceprince and Sound Sultan.
PT: How do you intend to combine your work as a presenter with music?
Adams: I haven’t slept in two years (laughs).
PT: What are you currently working on?
Adams: A video for Melo feat. Oritsefemi and Chidinma; more singles and an album are in the works. I’m also working on the second annual celebrity video game challenge, my reality show, The VJ Apprentice Search and focusing on my radio show, Know Your Music. I’m also working on a short film too. So, you see why I haven’t slept in two years.
PT: What’s on the album and when should we expect it?
Adams: No date yet but next year perhaps. I dare say it will be the best body of work from any VJ alive.
PT: What has been the challenges and gains so far in your career?
Adams: The experience has been great and overwhelming. First, it was Spice TV, a sister company to Soundcity and later on,after much request from clients, I was moved to SoundCity. The ultimate gain would be me living my dream – being paid to talk.
PT: How did your colleagues at Soundcity receive your songs?
Adams: We are cool. We respect one another. Most importantly, they respect my hustle. Moet’s favourite is Whazup. So, you see, they support my hustle.
PT: List your ten favourite Nigerian songs at the moment.

PT: What entertainment industry vice have you picked up from your colleagues?
Adams: Every man for himself God for us all. Anything wey anybody like make dem do. I don’t smoke nor drink. I’m a one man one woman type of guy.
PT: Who in the entertainment industry would you wish to date?
Adams: Eva Mendez. I think she’s adorable.
PT: Describe your style, fashion-wise.
Adams: Depends on my mood, but anything I feel comfortable wearing works.
PT: Where do you see yourself in five years?
Adams: In five years I just want to look back and say thank you.
