SURE-P: Sokoto trains 11,500 youth on poultry farming

Sokoto state government has commenced the training of 11,500 unemployed youths across the 23 local governments of the state in modern poultry farming.

The State Commissioner for Local Governments, Alhaji Faruk Malami disclosed this yesterday in Sokoto, when the National Vice President of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Hajiya Zainab Ringim led other officials on an inspection visit of some projects executed by the state government.

The Commissioner said that each of the 23 local governments of the state would have 500 unemployed youths to be trained under the scheme.

He added that the scheme was under the state government’s Subsidy Re-Investment Programmme (SURE-P) as part of efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people.

Malami also said that each of them will be given 15 chickens, a 20-bag of chicken feed and a modern cage at the end of the 3-day training.

Similarly, each of the 11,500 beneficiaries across the state will be given a monthly grant of N5, 000 to assist them in sustaining their businesses.

‘’This scheme is being executed under the state government’s Subsidy Re-Investment programmme – SURE-P as part of efforts to further alleviate the suffering of the people.

‘’This is to further reduce poverty and unemployment and their attendant consequences in the society,’’ the Commissioner, averred.

Malami also disclosed that 5,200 unemployed youths from across the state benefited from a similar gesture in 2013.

In her remarks, the NAWOJ Vice President, Hajiya Ringim commended the state government for the gesture, saying that, it would further empower women and the youths.

Ringim lauded Governor Aliyu Wamakko’s giant strides in the execution of development projects across the state.

She also observed that, all the projects executed by the governor were people oriented.
