Disaster: FEMA salvages property worth N432 in 2 months

A total of properties worth 432 million naira were saved by the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), through its Fire Service Division, between July and August, 2014.

Director of the Agency, Alhaji Abbas Idriss, who made this disclosure in a statement, noted that fire outbreak is the most frequent emergency faced by the agency.

He revealed that a total of 31 fire calls was received from all its Fire Stations in July and a total of twenty-nine fire calls in August.

But, the Director sated that Abaji and Kaura market Fire Stations were not included as there was no fire incident recorded during the period under review.

Also, the FEMA boss added that the agency responded to a total of eight rescue calls in the month of July while four calls was recorded in August.

He further disclosed that out of these rescue calls responded to,16 lives were saved while 4 lives were lost.

“Emergency fire calls attended to in July and August by the FCT Fire Service includes Works and Housing Area Council, 2. Mallam Street Jikwoyi phase 2, Amakura Crescent behind Gudu cemetery, LEA Office Gwagwalada, Area 1 shopping Centre, Bolingo Hotel near Ship House Central Area and National Judicial Institute Premises.

“Others are Main Street located in Sun City, SSS Quarters along General Hospital road, Kuje, NJI Premises, AIT Television Station, National Assembly Quarters, University of Abuja, Federal Staff Housing Estate, Fun care primary school, Karu and Nicon Luxury Hotels,” the statement added.
